Etymology, numerology and the chart are computed from what you give us, so they are the same quality at every price. Genealogy is not computable. It is a person reading indexes, comparing two Jeffery K McNeelys born eleven years apart in the same county, and deciding which one is your father — or saying they cannot tell.

What is not free is the ephemeris work, the etymological sourcing, and above all a researcher reading county indexes for your specific family. That is where the paid tiers begin.

Interpretation in the free reading is symbolic tradition with its sources named. It is not a prediction and not advice.

What happens when the records are thin. Sometimes they are. Rural counties burned their courthouses, women appear under three given names across four documents, and a 1950 census taker wrote one line for a household of nine. When that happens you do not get filler. You get the research-gaps section — a real, written deliverable that names each open thread, the spelling variants already eliminated, and the specific next record set to pull. A Heritage briefing may honestly conclude that a line goes cold in 1888 and say so in those words. We would rather hand you an accurate dead end than an invented ancestor.

Two objects, made after the research is finished

The book is typeset from the briefing, not exported from it: the etymology tables are reset to the page, the wheel is redrawn at print resolution, the source list becomes a proper bibliography. Cloth over board, foil-blocked wheel on the cover, sewn so it opens flat.

Refunds, turnaround, and the case where we find nothing

What if the research finds nothing about my family?

This happens, and it is the question we take most seriously. Two outcomes are possible and they are priced differently.

Partial findings. The usual case. Some ancestors confirm cleanly, some resolve to two indistinguishable candidates, one or two cannot be found at all. You get all of it, graded, plus a gaps section naming exactly what to try next — the 1950 census, the county marriage licences, the land patents, the spelling variants already eliminated. That is a complete Heritage briefing and is not refunded.

Nothing new at all. If the research cannot substantiate a single fact about your family beyond what you supplied on the form, we refund the research portion — $50 of the $89 — and you keep the full briefing, including the gaps write-up. That is a judgement we make and volunteer, not one you have to argue for.

What is the refund policy generally?

Chart. Refundable in full within 14 days for any reason, including “I read it and it wasn’t for me.” The site stays live.

Heritage. Full refund any time before research begins — in practice, within about 24 hours of ordering. After that, the research-portion refund above applies. Factual errors are corrected free and without a time limit; if a correction is not possible, that portion is refunded.

Heirloom. Full refund before the corrections round is signed off. After sign-off the physical production is committed, so from that point the refundable amount is the $189 less printing and framing, which is disclosed on the sign-off page as a specific figure before you approve it. Damage in transit is replaced outright.

How firm is the turnaround?

Chart is minutes — the ephemeris and the etymology compilation are not queued behind anything. Heritage is 5–7 calendar days and the clock starts when your form is complete, not when you paid; if we need one detail from you it pauses until you answer.

Heirloom is 3–4 weeks because binding and framing are done in small batches. If you have a fixed date — a wedding, a birthday, a funeral — say so on the form. If we cannot make it, we say so within a day and refund rather than ship late. For dates inside two weeks, order Heritage and have the book made afterwards.

Can I upgrade later?

Yes, at the difference in price, with no penalty and no expiry. Chart to Heritage is $50 and works well as a sequence: read the etymology and the chart, decide whether the family question is worth researching, then commission it. Heritage to Heirloom is $100 and can be done years later — the briefing is still live and still ours to typeset.

Do I pay per person or per name?

Per person. One briefing covers every name that person carries — first, middle, middles, surname, maiden name, and the parents’ and grandparents’ names as context for the lineage sections. Thirteen names across four generations is a normal Heritage brief and is not an upcharge.

Two people, such as a couple, is two briefings. Ordered together they share the research where the lines overlap, and the second is $20 off at Heritage and above.

Is this a subscription?

No. One payment, one briefing, hosted permanently with nothing to renew and no account to cancel. If you want the underlying files, the offline archive and the PDF are downloadable from the briefing itself on the day it lands.

Gift ordering — who gets what, and when?

You pay, you name the recipient, and you set the delivery date. Nothing reaches them before that date; the URL is held and the box is not shipped early. You can choose to see it first or to have it go straight to them unseen. The dedication message is set in the same type as the briefing, on its own page, and is not signed by us.
